CHINATOWN IN SEOUL - DAELIM
Speaking of Chinatown in Korea, most people would tell you about the one in Incheon. Very few, including Koreans, know about the one in Seoul. Daelim, which is located in the western part of Seoul, is inhabited by a large ethnic Korean-Chinese or Joseonjok (조선족) community. You don’t need to go all the way to Incheon just to have authentic Chinese cuisine! How does that sound? ;)
HOW TO GET THERE?
You can take Lines # 2 or 7 to get to Daelim Station.
WHERE TO GO?
In my opinion, the best lamb skewers in Daelim is near exit 6.
Once you walk out from exit 6, you should be able to spot the restaurant immediately. It’s the place with the red lanterns near GS25.
It’s a tiny restaurant run by two ajummas. Both ajummas speak Mandarin Chinese and Korean. Please note that English does NOT work here. The prices here are very reasonable, and the ajummas ALWAYS give “service” (aka free food). Who doesn't like free food?
Unlike most lamb skewer places, you do not need to manually turn the skewers. The grill turns the skewers automatically so the meat is cooked evenly. BIG bonus!
